Business Operations Manager
About Lightyear
We’re on a mission to make investing better for everyone in Europe. More specifically, we’re making it light years better (sorry… we had to!). We’re combining multi-currency accounts with unlimited access to global markets so that everyone in Europe can invest without sneaky hidden fees or unnecessary barriers.
Over the last 2 years, we’ve grown from being just an idea to a regulated business in both the UK & the EU, launching in 22 countries and raising $35M along the way. And we’ve hired a team of 50+ people from some of the best fintechs and startups in Europe.
We’ve got a stellar group of investors behind us including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sir Richard Branson, Mosaic Ventures, Taavet Hinrikus, Jaan Tallinn, Sten Tamkivi, Eileen Burbidge as well as a host of angel investors. In 2022, we raised a $25M Series A round and have been covered in CNBC, TechCrunch, Business Insider and City AM.
What you will do
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer you’ll take control of two important problems in our long-term success:
- Ensuring we have scalable terms with the right partners to enable incredible products for customers
- Help develop strategy and build tools for us to understand the underlying unit economics of the business: the right views into costs, revenue and user behaviour that help us take action to become leaner and that helps us price new products and features.
In practice, this means:
- Develop Strategy: Lead strategic initiatives, and support the COO and founders in clarifying the company strategy with analyses and structuring.
- Launch Products: Working with Product Managers and Leadership on new initiatives and finding the partners to support them (if needed) and making sure new initiatives improve the underlying economics of our business
- Price Products: Build models and analyses that help us understand user behaviour and profitability and use these to inform the pricing of new products
- Reduce costs: Build models to help us understand, track and action costs generated in the ordinary course of doing business. You’ll work closely with engineering and operations teams in making us leaner and removing unnecessary costs
- Get the best partners: Build and maintain commercial relationships with the dozens of partners that help us provide a great service. Ensure we are always improving the offering for customers through these partners and keep on reducing the variable costs involved in their services
Requirements
- At least 5 years experience or 2 with a top-tier consultancy or in a high-growth environment.
- Strategy - you’ve been in projects or have had a role where you were responsible for informing or making tactical and strategic decisions. You have examples of how you’ve made thoughtful trade-offs
- Modelling - you have built cash-flow models, are good with Excel (postgres / SQL nice to have) and can present the results of analyses convincingly
- Partner / Client Management - you’ve worked with partners or external stakeholders and have negotiated terms or agreements
- An understanding of the investment world is great, but it’s not required. A willingness to learn about it is a must, though!
